BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money) is an Indian mobile payment app developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), based on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). BHIM is built over the Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) infrastructure and allows the user to instantly transfer money between bank accounts of any two parties and encourage cashless transactions. It allows users to send or receive money to or from UPI payment addresses, or to non-UPI based accounts (by scanning a QR code with the account number and IFSC code or MMID code (Mobile Money Identifier Code or MMID code is a 7 digit code issued by a participating bank to their Mobile Banking registered customers availing IMPS service). Users can also request money from other UPI users through the app from a UPI ID. Unlike e-wallets transactions on BHIM are nearly instantaneous and can be done 24/7 including on bank holidays.
BHIM facilitates instant and direct bank transactions with their mobile number/Virtual Payment Address (VPA). Customers can check transaction history, pending UPI collect requests, raising complaints about declined transactions, etc. They can view static QR codes and payment addresses created through the customer profile. They can also switch between multiple bank accounts linked with BHIM App. They can also set/change their UPI- PIN.
BHIM facility is available for Andriod & iOS Users. BHIM app can be downloaded and installed from the Google Play Store or Apple app store. Enter your mobile number which is linked to your bank account. Select your preferred language and then log in by setting 4 digit application passwords. Then you have to link your bank account and set the UPI- PIN by providing the last 6 digits of his card numbers and expiry date. Now account is registered and ready to use.
How to send Money?
Open your BHIM app on your smartphone and login with your password. Then select the ‘Send Money’ option and initiate SEND request. Enter the recipient’s VPA/mobile number/Bank account number and IFSC code/ and click to verify the payee’s name. On confirming the correctness of payee’s name, enter the amount and transaction remark (optional) and click on ‘Pay’. You will be redirected to the UPI- PIN entry page where you must enter the UPI PIN. Once you enter your UPI –PIN, money is transferred to the payees’ account.
How to collect/receive money?
Open your UPI BHIM app on your smartphone and log in with your password. Select the option ‘Receive Money’ option and initiate a request transaction. Enter the sender’s (remitter’s) VPA/mobile number and click to verify the sender’s name. On confirming the sender’s name, enter the required amount along with the transaction remark (if required). Once the money request notification received by the payer, the payer may accept the request. On acceptance of the request by the payer, money is transferred to the requester’s account.
How to scan QR code and Pay money?
Open your BHIM app on your smartphone and log in with your passcode. Select the Scan and Pay option and pay through QR. The app opens a QR scanner where you can scan the QR code. Once you see the Payee’s name as fetched by the bank CBS, you must enter the payable amount, transaction remarks (optional), and click on ‘Pay’. You will be redirected to the UPI -PIN entry page where you must enter the UPI –PIN. Once you enter the PIN, money is transferred to the payee’s account. Money can also be requested or collected by generating a dynamic QR code – The initiator/requestor must choose the ‘generate QR code option’ and generate the QR code. The code can be shared on E-mail/WhatsApp to request money.
