Bank Holidays for 2024: West Bengal

The Finance Department Government of West Bengal vide circular No 6112-F (P2) dated 09.11.2023 declared Bank holidays under section 25 of the Negotiable Instrument Act 1881. The holiday declared under NI Act is applicable exclusively to the banks located within the administration area of West Bengal State. In other States and Union territories where it is not a holiday, banks remain open and allow normal banking transactions similar to any other working day.

Banks are closed on the 1st of April every year due to ANNUAL CLOSING of accounts.  All Sundays and 2nd & 4th Saturdays are Bank Holidays under the explanation to section 25 of the Negotiable Instrument Act 1881. (This holiday rule is applicable to all commercial and cooperative banks operating in the entire India). Because the 2nd and 4th Saturdays and all Sundays are bank holidays. If any of the holidays for the festivals of the Muslim fraternity notified above do not fall on the date notified, the holiday date may be altered by the concerned government, or the community fraternity in government service may be granted special holidays on the date observable.
