Budget 2018: High lights for agriculture sector

Finance Minister Mr.Arun Jaitley, proposed following scheme for agriculture sector.

  • The government will set up regulations to make sure that470 Agricultural Produce Market Committees are created and connected to the electronic platform of the National Agricultural Market (eNAM).
  • The government is looking at working with NITI Aayog to set up an optimal farm price realisation system. Additionally,22000 new gramin agri centres (GRAMS) will be set up to assist farmers in selling their produce directly.
  • 2,000 crore will be set aside for the realisation of an agricultural market fund.
  • The government has doubled the allocation into the food processing sector that is currently growing at the rate of 750 Crores annually. This year, the allocation will be Rs.1400 crore.
  • 500 crore has been set aside for Operation Green.
  • Finance Minister proposed to enable farmers in the fisheries and animal husbandry segments to benefit from Kisan credit cards. Rs.10000 crore will be allocated for the same. This could result in better animal rearing practices in India and lead to the improvement in the quality of meat available commercially.
  • As per provisions of Union Govt. Budget 2018, the farmers’ income is targeted to be doubled within the year 2022
  • The finance minister announced a major reform that the minimum support price (MSP) for all agriculture produce would be fixed at a level to ensure the farmer a minimum return of One and half times over the production cost.
  • In the Union Budget 2018, the Government proposes to launch ‘Operation Green’ for which a sum of Rs.500 Cr will be allocated which will help farmers generate produce and to address price fluctuations in potato, tomato and onion for benefit of farmers and consumers.
  • In the Union Budget 2018, it is proposed to raise institutional credit for agriculture to Rupees Eleven Trillion for 2018-19.
  • In the Union Budget 2018, it is proposed a state-of-the-art facility will be set up in 42 food parks for agri exports.
  • In the Union Budget 2018, the FM proposes to launch a restructured national bamboo mission with Rs.1200 crore allocation.
  • FM proposes under the Prime Minister Krishi Sinchai Yojna Har Khet Ko Pani programme, 96 deprived irrigation districts will be taken up with an allocation of 2,600 Crore.
