BANK HOLIDAYS 2020: WEST BENGAL

The Government of West Bengal declared the following days to be public holidays during the year 2020 under section 25 of NI Act 1881.

All Sundays and 2nd & 4th Saturdays are Bank Holidays under the explanation to section 25 of the Negotiable Instrument Act 1881, applicable to all commercial and co-operative banks operating in entire India. The holidays with double asterisk mark [i.e., (**)] are applicable to those Government offices only where Saturdays are not observed as full holiday.

In the year, 2020, the following festivals/ occasions fall on Sunday which is public holidays under the N. I. Act and hence, hase not been included in the list of holidays:

Birthday of Swami Vivekananda                12th January, Sunday

Republic Day      26th January, Sunday

Muharram          30th August, Sunday

Durga Puja – Nabami      25th October, Sunday

 If any of the holidays for the festivals of Muslim fraternity notified above does not fall on the date notified, the holiday date may be altered by the concerned government or the community fraternity in government service may be granted special holidays on the date observable. In this regard, general Instructions as laid down in the Government of West Bengal Notification No. 5965-F(P2) dated 01.11.2019 to be followed.
