Sick leave and maternity leave rules are partially modified in Banks under BPS dated 12th BPS and 9th Joint Note dated March 8, 2024.
Sick leave:
In terms of earlier settlements, an employee is entitled to 30 days of sick leave on half substantive pay, for every year of service subject to a maximum of 18 months (540 days) during his/her entire period of service in the Bank. However, if an employee has put in a service of 24 years, he/she shall be eligible for additional sick leave at the rate of one month for each year of service more than 24 years, subject to 3 months of additional sick leave.
A single male parent can avail of sick leave for the sickness of his child of 8 years and below subject to the production of a medical certificate.
Employees can avail of sick leave for the sickness of their Special Child of 15 years and below for a maximum period of 10 days in a calendar year subject to the production of a medical certificate.
Women employees shall be allowed to take one day of Sick Leave per month without the production of a medical certificate.
In the case of employees of the age of 58 years and above sick leave may be granted towards hospitalization of the spouse at a center other than the place of work and for a maximum period of 30 days in a calendar year.
An employee shall be granted sick leave at the rate of one month for each year of service subject to a maximum of 720 days during the entire service.
Maternity Leave:
Employees (including permanent part-time employees) or Officers of the bank on maternity leave shall be entitled to full emoluments. Every female employee is eligible for Maternity leave on full substantive pay, not exceeding 6 months on any one occasion subject to a maximum of 12 months during the entire period of service. Maternity leave is available even in the first year of service including during her period of probation. However, the period of probation shall be extended to that extent. Maternity leave can be availed for a pre-natal and post-natal period or at the time of miscarriage or abortion on the production of a medical certificate. Maternity leave on account of miscarriage or abortion shall not exceed 6 weeks at a time. Competent Authority can grant leave of any other kind admissible with or in continuation of maternity leave provided the request is supported by sufficient medical Certificate. Maternity leave is calculated on a month-to-month basis.
In case of delivery of more than 2 children in one single delivery, maternity leave shall be granted for up to 12 months.
Maternity leave shall be granted once to a female employee for a maximum period of 9 months, for legally adopting a child who is below one year of age, all other conditions remaining the same.
Maternity leave may be granted for In vitro fertility (IVF) treatment subject to the production of a medical certificate, within the overall limit of 12 months.
Special maternity leave of up to 60 days shall be granted in case of stillborn or death of the infant within 28 days of birth.
For availing sick leave the employee has to submit a Medical certificate issued by a Registered Medical Practitioner acceptable to the bank or at the bank’s discretion from a Doctor nominated by them at their cost. An employee can convert the half-pay sick leave into full-pay sick leave. But twice the period of leave will be debited. During the first year of service, sick leave will be granted on a prorated basis. Sick Leave can be availed for any number of days. An officer or employee suffering from minor ailments can avail SL without producing a medical certificate for 2 days on an occasion up to a maximum of 10 days in a calendar year provided he/she does not have any casual leave at credit. This leave can be availed by an officer even for 1 day. In respect of sick leave taken during a financial year, only the actual period of absence will be taken into account irrespective of the fact whether it was on full pay/half pay.
