Current accounts or SB accounts may be transferred from one branch of a bank to another without incurring any charges. When an account holder wishes to initiate such a transfer, a written request must be submitted—either to the current branch or the branch to which the account is to be transferred. Any unused cheque leaves should be returned along with the request. Additionally, the ATM-cum-credit card associated with the account must be surrendered, and any standing instructions or ECS mandates should be cancelled.
In the case of cash credit accounts, transfers are subject to the fulfillment of specific formalities and may be carried out at the discretion of the bank upon application to the branch currently maintaining the account.
To facilitate the transfer of a bank account within the same bank, the following steps should be followed:
- Visit the Current Branch: Inform the branch of your intention to transfer the account to another branch within the same bank.
- Obtain and Complete the Transfer Request Form: Provide necessary details such as your account number, contact information, and the name and address of the destination branch.
- Submit Required Items: Return any unused cheque leaves and surrender your ATM-cum-credit card at the time of submitting the transfer request. Also, ensure that all standing instructions and ECS mandates linked to the account are duly cancelled.
- Inquire About Processing Time: The time required to process a transfer may vary from bank to bank, so it is advisable to ask the current branch for an estimated timeframe.
- Visit the New Branch: Once the transfer is complete, visit the new branch and submit valid identification (such as an Aadhaar card, passport, or driver’s license) and address proof (such as a utility bill or rental agreement).
After the transfer has been processed, you may begin operating your account from the new branch.
